As many of you already know, I’ve moved back to Lafayette due to a harrowing experience. (I’m very happy that I was able to use the word harrowing!) My flight instructor, in a moment of sheer stupidity, lost control of our airplane and we spiraled/dove about 2,000 feet before leveling off. And before hitting the ground. I was very happy about that last part.
My instructor (the only one for my program) was suspended pending investigation, meaning I was instructor-less. The company offered to move me to Trenton, New Jersey or Long Beach, California to continue flight training, but I declined mainly because I didn’t want to move that far away. But also because I’m suddenly terrified of heights. Which isn’t really an ideal fear for someone as tall as me!
To add to the story, my horrible experience happened on the same day as this event in College Station, TX (not far from where I was). Also in the same week: The amazing Hudson Bay water landing. This crazy happening was within the past few weeks as well. Not a good few weeks for the flying industry. Superman, Birds, and Bugs are all at risk!
I’ve always taken great pride in having the opportunities to experience things that most people aren’t able to do, but a near disaster is not what I had in mind! Despite everything, I’m completely healthy and I still possess my trusty sarcastic personality (a.k.a. defense mechanism).
I still plan to keep this blog as active as I possibly can, so keep it on your favorites (or add it to your favs). Oh, and leave me a comment below!
